Cartagena Live

Cartagena and the surrounding area have inherited an impressive historical legacy, thanks to the intense social, commercial and political activity which has taken place here throughout the history of the Mediterranean area over the last two thousand years.

Among a cornucopia of archaeological relics are the remains of Phoenician boats, a late Roman burial ground, the Roman amphitheatre and the Punic Wall, and even now more sites are being discovered and restored to be displayed in the city’s numerous museums and interpretation centres.

Such is the proliferation of museums that there is a popular “Noche de los Museos”, or Museum Night, during which residents and visitors to the city can partake in free nocturnal visits to these centres, while at the same time enjoying musical performances and other artistic events.
