Cartagena Live

Cartagena is proud to be home to the cultural legacy left by Carmen Conde and Antonio Oliver.

Carmen Conde has been critically acclaimed as one of the finest poets of the 20th century, and was the first woman to be elected to the Real Academia Española. Her husband, Antonio Oliver Belmás, a teacher and poet, is considered to be one of the leading experts on the works of Rubén Darío.

Despite the vagaries of fate which forced them to live away from the city where they were born, it was their desire to leave their legacy to the city. Their papers and personal library are now housed in the Centro Cultural “Ramón Alonso Luzzy”, and there is also a museum dedicated to the two writers.
